Happy Hours Bacoli - Interview with architect Vicidomini

Located in the heart of Bacoli (Naples), at the foot of Mount Procida in Campania, the Happy Hours Bacoli project wowed the jury of the 2024 Emilgroup Project Awards, winning the award in the Creativity category. Designed by the manuarino architecture firm, this project stands out for its original and creative use of Emilgroup collections, offering an alternative reading and maximizing the materials’ potential.

We asked architect Vicidomini to share with us his ideas and inspirations behind the winning project.

What did you like best about Emilgroup’s collections?

Emilgroup is a company that covers the full spectrum of the tile world. One of the things we most appreciated was the availability of decorative interiors settings, but not only that. Emilgroup’s collections also include technical surfaces with many available sizes. This allows us to tailor a project to the needs of our customers and of the project itself, without having to change companies. Moreover, Emilgroup’s customer care and customer service are excellent, which is always a bonus.

How do you envision the use of ceramics in the future of architecture?

As a firm, we have been using porcelain stoneware for several years now in virtually every project. It is a material we really like, especially for surfaces that require some organisation, durability and strength. It is perfectly suited for retail or food service spaces, as well as for home interiors. I anticipate extensive use of this material not only on more usual flooring and surfaces, but also in the countertops of high-end restaurant kitchens. Consider, for example, kitchen countertops with integrated induction hobs. This is a ceramic technological innovation that has emerged in recent years. I really like it.
Porcelain stoneware is a super stone and we really appreciate it.
