Casa Bianca: a dialogue between light and architecture

Architect Anna Polisano

Situated on the southern coast of Sicily, Casa Bianca is a villa that interprets the Mediterranean landscape through minimalist architecture based on compositional balance, controlled lighting, and a focus on materials. The project, designed by architect Anna Polisano, assigns a structural role to the colour white: it is not merely an aesthetic choice, but a design element that amplifies natural light and clearly defines the architecture’s identity.

Light-coloured surfaces reflect light and create a sense of continuity with the surrounding environment, blurring the boundary between the living space and nature, while clean lines and compact volumes give the building the appearance of a modern seaside fortress.

The outdoor spaces are arranged around two courtyards: one faces the dunes and the sea, while the other is more intimate and private, where a pool nestled among the greenery serves as the centrepiece of the relaxation area. The Re-Play Concrete by Provenza collection was chosen for the paving in these areas, specifically the Recupero White variant in the 60×120 cm size, selected for its brightness and uniform appearance, which perfectly harmonises with the villa’s dominant white colour scheme.

The use of the Tecnica surface made the paving particularly safe and anti-slip, ideal for outdoor spaces and areas exposed to water, without compromising the project’s elegance and stylistic coherence.

The result is a villa that combines simplicity and sophistication, where materials, volumes, and light interact with the Sicilian landscape, creating harmonious spaces that reflect an approach that respects and enhances the surrounding environment.
