City Community Center in Laubach: interview with ankestern interior

Laubach’s City Community Center is the result of a renovation that combines contemporary design and functionality, creating a dynamic and welcoming space for the community. In this project, the ankestern interior firm succeeded in creating a modern and practical context, using the Medley by Ergon collection to add a distinctive and functional touch.

We interviewed Anke Stern, founder of ankestern interior, to find out more about the creative process and challenges faced in this project.

What is the philosophy behind your project?

The philosophy behind our project is based on the idea of creating a space that combines contemporary design and functionality in response to the needs of a dynamic, intergenerational community. The goal was to offer a modern yet practical solution. A key aspect was integrating the design of furniture, such as that in the bar, with the overall concept of the space. The bar becomes the focal point of the room, accentuated by the continued use of Emilgroup ceramic materials that extend into the surrounding environment. A change of material in front of the bar clearly defines a specific area, enhancing its functionality. Additionally, in the staircase area, a transition of materials signals the need for more attention, contributing to a more conscious visual and spatial experience.

What excited you most about this project?

What particularly struck us was the community’s openness in wanting to create a new hub for the town. This space has an urban and modern character that redefines the heart of the community. People’s active participation was a really inspiring aspect for us.

What did you most appreciate about Emilgroup?

We received excellent support throughout the process, from material samples to pricing information and supplier management. Using a high-quality Italian product, which had to reach Austria and then Germany, therefore proved to be the best choice. The project was delivered on time and on budget, which was crucial for us and our client. We are very satisfied with the collaboration and highly recommend working with Emilgroup!
